What are the important dates of Indian history
Indian history has many important dates which are very much necessary to remember for the preparation of competitive exams. There are many important events in the Indian history timeline that redefined the course of India’s history.
These comprise of three periods
- Ancient
- Medieval
- Modern
First lets learn about the Ancient Period.
Ancient period of Indian history starts from before the birth of Christ. This is the pictorial representation of timeline of events to help you remember better.
- 2500 – 1750 BC: This is the period of Indus Valley Civilization
- 563 – 483 BC : Gautam Buddha’s life span
- 540 – 468 BC : Mahavir’s life-span
- 327 – 326 BC : Alexander’s invasion of India. It opened a land route between India and Europe
- 322 BC : Accession of Chandragupta Maurya
- 305 BC : Defeat of Seleucus at the hands of Changragupta Maurya
- 273 – 232 BC : Ashoka’s reign
- 261 BC : Conquest of Kalinga
- 145 – 101 BC : Reign of Elara, the Chola king of Sri Lanka
- 58 BC : Beginning of Vikram Era
Here are some ancient events which are in the AD (Anno Domini) era.
- 78 AD : Beginning of Saka era
- 78 – 101 AD : Kanishka’s reign
- 319 – 320 AD : Commencement of Gupta Era
- 380 AD : Accession of Chandragupta II ‘Vikramaditya‘
- 405 – 411 AD : Chinese traveller Fa Hein’s Visit to India
- 415 AD : Accession of Kumaragupta I
- 606 – 647 AD : Harshavarshan’s reign
